About Hasbro

Hasbro, a contraction of the original name, Hassenfeld Brothers is an American entity with operations around the world. Founded in 1923 by Henry Hassenfeld, Hillel Hassenfeld and Herman Hassenfeld, Hasbro is headquartered in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and is one of the biggest toy manufacturers in the US, committed to creating world class play and entertainment experiences. Responsible for the production of famed toys such as GI Joe, Transformers, My Little Pony etc, Hasbro has produced toys for giant franchises such as Disney, Star Wars and Marvel. Hasbro also sells board games such as Scrabble, Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit. Big names in this domain include the Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. Currently headed by Brian Goldner, Hasbro reported net revenues of 4.72 billion dollars for the year 2019. However, it is not all fun and games at Hasbro. The company takes its job as a responsible corporation very seriously. So much so that it has been ranked among the 2020’s 100 best corporate citizens by 3BL Media. Not only that, Hasbro has also been named among the world’s most ethical companies by Ethisphere Institute. Hasbro has been able to hold on to the position for the past 9 years.

Though originally Hasbro dealt with textile products, over the next twenty years, they decided to expand into school supplies by majorly focusing on pencil and pencil case production. It did not take them long to come out with products such as modelling clay and doctor, and nurse kits. These products became their entry into the world of toys and entertainment. However, it was not until the launch of Mr. Potato Head that the company became a major Disney Licensee. Their next major success was GI Joe, which became one of their instant hits and survived the ups and downs of the market for a very long time. Interestingly, Hasbro pioneered the term “action figure” in order to target young boys who wanted to play with toys which were not dolls. GI joe was a big hit so much so that during the years 1964 and 1965, GI joe was responsible for 70% of Hasbro’s sales.
