About Grand Bazaar
Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey is one of the oldest covered markets in the world and is occupied by more than four thousand shops. The shops are scattered across 60 streets, covering over 31,000 square meters. The Grand Bazaar is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm. Itย first opened in 1461 and is today popular for its spices, jewelry, pottery, and carpets. Each day close to 400,000 visitors visit the place. It is locally popular as Kapali รarsisi. Over 20,000 people work within the bazaar.
The Grand Bazaar encompasses two mosques, four fountains and several cafes and restaurants. Besides unique antiques, you can find old coins, ethnic dresses, capets, leather goods, spices, Turkish savories, Turkish blankets and shawls, jewelry, Iznik tiles, decorative bowls, embroideries, hand-painted ceramics, vases, lamps, books, art, furniture and sculptures.
There are some 21 gates to enter Grand Bazaar. The most popular consist of Beyazit Kapisi, รarsikapi, Nuruosmaniye Kapisi, Mahmut Pasa Kapisi and รrรผcรผler Kapisi.
