About Fiordland National Park
Fiordland National Park is a large park located in Southland, New Zealand. Established in the year 1952, the Fiordland National Park is spread across 12,500 sq kms and is part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. The park is managed by the country’s Department of Conservation (DOC).
There are a number of hiking and walking tracks within the park. They include the popular Milford, Kepler and Routeburn tracks. There are short walks to multi-day tracks, including guided day walks as well. Boat cruises are available at the Doubtful Sound, also referred as “the Sound of Silence”, which is a remote fiord. The Sutherland Falls is another important must visit place in the park. You also have the Lake Te Anau and Lake Manapouri, offering stunning view of forests and mountains in the backdrop.
For more interesting facts, the Fiordland National Park is home to a large number of unique birds. They include the flightless parrot, the kakapo and the only alpine parrot, the kea. You can also spot parakeets, yellowheads, long-tailed bats, brown teal, brown creepers, grey warblers, bellbirds and woodpigeons. The largest lake in the South Island, the Te Anau is a perfect place for leisure and recreation. You have hotels, restaurants and shopping facilities here. For more information or queries on tours, guided walks, transportation, accommodation, parking, or others, reach the Fiordland National Park support.
