About The Colosseum
The Colosseum is a popular monument in the center of Rome, Italy, built by the Romans in the first century AD. The arena was built between 72 AD and 80 AD for barbaric games and shows involving gladiators. Built from stone and concrete, the Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is the largest amphitheatre in the world. It apparently has 80 entrances, underground passages and could seat some 50,000 spectators. The spectators could enter freely and sometimes would even receive food. The events could last up to 100 days. More than 9,000 animals is said to have been slaughtered during the inaugural games. It also claimed the lives over over 500,000 people.
The monument is well connected by public modes of transportation. You have metro, bus as well as tram that connects you to prime areas. If you are taking metro, you need to take the Line B – “Colosseo”. As for tram, it is Line 3 and if bus, it would be Line 75, 81, 673, 175 and 204. Tickets can be purchased at the Colosseum, Roman Forum or Palatine. There are also authorized agencies from where you can purchase tickets. You can avoid all these hassles by simply booking a ticket online or through phone. Those with Archaeologia Card, OMNIA and Roma Pass can use the same to enter the monument.
