About Chapultepec Castle
Chapultepec Castle is a popular castle in Mexico situated atop the Chapultepec Hill. Chapultepec means “Hill of the Grasshoppers” in Nahuatl (language of the Aztecs). The historical site was constructed on the order of Viceroy Bernardo de Galvez in 1785. Construction completed in 1863. This was also the site during the Mexico-American war in 1847. It served as the home to several leaders, including Emperor Maximilian and Porfirio Diaz. Today there is a museum at the castle. The National History Museum here is a popular tourist attraction. Visitors will be enthralled by the works of artists that include Juan O’Gorman, Jorge González Camarena and Jose Clemente Orozco. The castle is open from 9am to 5pm for public.
