About British Museum
British Museum is a large museum and landmark in London, UK, established in 1753. It started with Sir Hans Sloane’s collection of 71,000 objects. Each year the museum welcomes over 6 million people. In 2003, it celebrated its 250th anniversary. Currently, the collection at the museum totals to at least 8 million objects. However, only about 80,000 objects are on public display at one time. Facilities at the museum include free WiFi, restaurants, cafes, cloakrooms, among others.
The British Museum is open from 10am to 5.30pm on weekdays. The galleries are divided into Africa, Americas (North America, Mexico), Ancient Egypt (Egyptian Sculpture, Early Egypt, Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia), Ancient Greece and Rome (Roman Empire, Athens, Parthenon, Nereid Monument, Ancient Cyprus, Roman Sculpture), Asia (China, Amaravati, Chinese Jade, Korea, Japan, Chinese Ceramics..), Europe (Europe from 1400-1800, 1800-1900,, 1900-present, Roman Britain, Medieval Europe) and Middle East (Assyria, Ancient Iran, Islamic World, Ancient South Arabia, Mesopotamia)
There are special exhibitions held everyday. You can buy a ticket online to access the exhibition. Payment for e-tickets can be made through debit/credit card. Tickets can be purchased up to 24 hours before visit. You can even buy a membership to access the exhibitions and receive other benefits. Members are not required to book tickets for special exhibitions and can access freely. By becoming a member you not only support the collection but also enjoy unlimited free entry to exhibitions. Members can also get access to Members’ Room for a great view overlooking the Great Court and enjoy special offers and discounts.
