About Birmingham New St station
Birmingham New Street station is the largest and busiest railway station in the city of Birmingham, located in West Midlands, England. It is situated right under the Grand Central shopping centre. Being one of the busiest interchange stations in Great Britain, it is managed by the National Rail Limited. It is a major hub of the British railway system connecting the city of Birmingham to other significant locations such as London, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, and Edinburgh through the railway corridors, The West Coast Main Line and Cross Country Route.
The Bull Ring and Grand Central shopping malls in Central Birmingham together form a significant shopping and eatery destination. These landmark shopping malls are connected through a link street while Grand Central Mall is accessible from Birmingham New Street railway station. The main entrance to the train station is past the Smallbrook Queensway, opposite the Bullring Shopping Centre. The station has 3 main exists to handle the rush. The other two train stations in the city of Birmingham, Moor Street and Snow Hill stations are just minutes away from Stephenson Street (New Street) exit.
The Birmingham New Street railway station has 13 platforms with key facilities and services available for passengers arriving and leaving the station. The station operating hours are Monday to Friday, 4.30am to 2am, on Saturday 4.30am to 12.30am, and Sunday 8am to 2am. West Midlands Metro provides a comfortable tram service connecting the key areas along the busy transit route from Birmingham New Street to Wolverhampton. The frequency of these services is 6 – 8 minutes during the daytime and every 15 minutes in the evenings and on Sundays.
You can access the New Street station by bicycle, car, taxi, bus, tram or by walk. If you are planning to switch trains at the station, allow a gap of at least 12 minutes before the next train. Facilities are available in every zone of the station such as toilets, accessible toilets and changing rooms. As for train services, the Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, Transport for Wales and West Midlands Trains run their services from New Street station to different parts of the UK. It is a central location for transit lines from different regions connecting cross-country. Avanti West Coast runs two trains per hour between Birmingham New Street to Glasgow Central, Edinburgh, and other areas towards the north. Transport Wales runs one train per hour from New Street to Birmingham International, close to the airport. West Midlands Trains and CrossCountry has a schedule of one train per hour that connect suburban regions to major cities throughout the country.
