The multinational footwear brand Bata began manufacturing and marketing shoes in Bangladesh around 1962. Founded by Czech businessman Tomas Bata, Bata has operations in more than 70 countries. In Bangladesh, the business is managed under the Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Limited. Shoes are manufactured at the two facilities, one in Tongi and other at Dhamrai.
