The birth certificate for a newborn Emirati in Dubai is an official document required to prove the child’s nationality, religion, lineage, place and date of birth. Once a baby is born in Dubai, the concerned hospital where the birth has taken place will be responsible for providing a signed and stamped birth notification. The next step of the process involves the issuance of the birth certificate.

It should be known that in case the hospital is government-run, then the birth certificate will be issued on-spot. However, if the hospital is privately-run, then the parent(s) of the child has to apply for the birth certificate via the official online portals of the Government, namely through the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) or the Mabrouk Ma Yak integrated eService portal.

To apply for a birth certificate, the required set of documents include (both original and photocopies) – the hospital’s birth notification where the birth had originally taken place, the marriage contract of the parents, the valid identity cards and passports of the parents, the family book of the parents (only for UAE citizens) and the attendance of the concerned person (usually the father of the child) or his legal representative.

Generally, it takes around 1-10 working days for the birth certificate to be delivered and the total cost will be around AED 65, with the certificate being either in Arabic or English. Furthermore, UAE nationals will have a maximum time of 30 days to register their child’s birth, while non-citizens or expatriates will have a maximum time of 120 days for the same.
