Contrary to popular belief, Target’s journey started in the early 1900s, almost 60 years before the first Target store had opened. It all started with the Dayton Dry Goods Company, later to be renamed Target Corporation. Founded by George Draper Dayton, the company opened the doors for its first departmental store in 1910, known as Dayton’s Departmental Store. Target was also the first retail store to showcase the use of airplanes to deliver merchandise across the United States.
In 1954, the company launched its second department store in Rochester, Minnesota. But, it was not until 1962 when Target was formed, that its founder George Draper Dayton decided to establish a discount retail store. Half a decade later, the Dayton Corporation launched its first IPO (Initial Public Offer) and thereby became a public limited company. The journey did not stop there as the company celebrated its milestone of $1 billion in sales revenue in 1979.
The 1990s internet boom also made the company launch its online shopping portal in 1999. The subsequent year, Dayton Corporation was renamed to Target Corporation and the first pop-store for the company opened in NYC, in 2001. The company continued to expand, and in 2021, Target celebrated its milestone of $106 billion in sales revenue, which was the first time in its history. As of today, the major product categories at Target include clothing, shoes and accessories, home and patio, baby products, electronics, school and office, toys, entertainment, sports and fitness, beauty and personal care, health, household essentials, pets and grocery.
Supported payment options include debit and credit cards from major vendors (MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover) including Target’s own branded debit and credit cards. Other payment options include Target gift cards, third-party instalment plans, third-party gift cards, PayPal and Apple Pay. Cash is also accepted as a mode of payment, but only at Target stores and not through the app or the website.
What is Target’s Cancellation Policy
Target allows its customers to cancel their orders only if the relevant orders are yet to be processed for shipping. However, if the cancellation window has passed, then customers can still refuse the ordered item upon delivery. Customers can also return their orders at any Target store or via mail using a Target.com return label.
Returns are accepted within 90 days of placing the order and customers will get an extra 30 days if paid with Target RedCard. Once the order cancellation or return is successful, refunds will be made to the original form of payment that was made for the purchase. Expect a delay of 7-10 business days for the refunded amount to be reflected in your account.
