Sundaram Clayton Limited (SCL) is India’s leading manufacturer and distributor of auto components. The company is a part of the $5 billion TVS group of companies. The company is well known for its aluminium die castings that are used for automotive as well as non-automotive purposes. SCL began its operations in 1962 and since then has achieved numerous milestones owing to its high consumer satisfaction level. The company is a joint venture between the TVS Group and Clayton Dewandre Holdings Plc. The first plant was established in 1998 in Hosur due to the increased demand of products in India. At present, SLC has 3 manufacturing plants across the country at Hosur, Mahindra World City and Oragadam. The company’s managing director is Mr Venu Srinivasan.
The company has fully equipped state-of-the art plants with die casting machines that can produce dies ranging from 0.25kg to 25kg PDC, 0.25kg to 24kg GDC and 2.5kg to 18kg LPDC. SCL has a comprehensive infrastructure that includes in-house alloying, 61 pressure die casting machines, 40 gravity die casting stations and 17 low die casting machines for the production of the company’s products. The plants also have machines for processes like core making, fettling, impregnation, aluminium welding, heat treatment and shot blasting under a single roof. The company also has an international standard quality and inspection process which incorporates methods like spectroscopy, thermography, optical microscope for image analysis, Millipore testing, profile projection and core sand analysis.
SCL’s has a wide range of aluminium pressure die casting products for heavy commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles and two wheelers. Some of the products manufactured and distributed by the company include flywheel housing, gear housing, clutch housing, filter heads, air connectors, tube oil cooler cover assembly, filtration module casting, turbo charger, compressor cover assembly, charge air pipe, intake manifold, cover coolant duct for the truck segment. The passenger cars segment includes products like cylinder head, case transaxle assembly, oil pan, chain case, cylinder head cover, adapter oil filter, fuel pump housing, fork gear shift, starter housing and AC compressor housing. Crank case, cylinder head, cylinder barrel and wheel hubs are the products manufactured in the two wheeler segment. The company also manufactures brake equipment valve bodies.
