Provogue (India) Limited was established on November 11, 1997 under the original name Acme Clothing Private Limited by Nikhil Chaturvedi. The company was converted to a public limited company on March 11, 2005 followed by the change to the erstwhile name of Provogue (India) Limited. The company inculcates the philosophy of creating trends in fashion which has made it a brand to reckon with in the clothing market. Provogue started off with a launch in a multi brand outlet n Mumbai in 1998 further being expanded to 120 multi brand outlets by the end of 1999. Mumbai saw the first exclusive Provogue store in 2000 followed by the starting of its first manufacturing facility in Daman on April 7, 2003.
The company increased its popularity by employing aggressive advertising and PR campaigns drawing consumers towards their brand apparel. The manufacturing facility in Daman managed to produce 2000 shirts per day. The most popular products sold by the company are men’s t-shirts, trousers, jeans, socks and wallets. Over the years the company sought to increase their sale area and achieving the launch of outlets across all major cities of India. In the year 2000, the company achieved a total sale of Rs. 1400 lakhs.
Over the next few years, the company focussed towards expansion and increase in sales. 36 exclusive retail stores were planned and advertising was given a necessary impetus. The other products marketed by the company include knitwear, woollens, ties, handbags and other accessories. Stringent quality control standards are put forward for the selection of manufacturers and suppliers of trousers and other accessories. Recently, the company has also launched deodorants and fragrances for men along with apparel for women.
Provogue (India) Limited took over Acme Global on April 1, 2004 making it a subsidiary of the parent company. Acme Global is involved in the business of export of chemicals, dyes, textiles and textile machinery. This step signalled the entry of Provogue in the business of textile export and related operations. This aimed at consolidation and deeper understanding of the global textile market as well as the current global fashion trends that could be incorporated in the retail brand. Also, this helped the company in negotiating textile prices for its own manufacturing facility.
Promotional events and special offers on products during different seasons has helped the company to attract more consumers to its brand making it one of the leading apparel retail chain in India.
