About Police Scotland
Police Scotland is the official law enforcement agency in Scotland. Locally called Polis Scotland, the police force was formed in the year 2013 and currently boasts of more than 23,000 staff. Police Scotland is governed by the Scottish Government and is responsible to the Scottish Police Authority. The force works with the motto “Semper Vigilo” (Always Vigilant). For some more facts, Police Scotland was formed with the merger of eight regional police forces that include Central Scotland Police, Fife Constabulary, Frampian Police, Scottish Police Services Authority and Tayside Police. The force is headquartered at Tulliallan, Fife.

Coming to the ranks, Police Scotland’s top most officer is the Chief Constable. Under the Chief Constable comes Deputy Chief Constables, Assistant Chief Constables, Superintendents, Inspectors, Sergeants and Constables. The second largest force in the UK after the Metropolitan Police, Police Scotland has 13 local policing divisions, each headed by a Commander. They are responsible for maintaining law and order, fighting crime and keeping the country safe. It also checks and investigates human trafficking, substance abuse, cybercrime and domestic abuse. The website has a number of resources detailing the policies and procedures.

The territorial divisions managed by the force include Argyll and West Dunbartonshire, Ayrshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Edinburgh, Fife, Forth Valley, Greater Glasgow, Highland and Islands, Lanarkshire, North East, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, Tayside and The Lothians and Scottish Borders. You can locate a local branch or officer on the website. While there, you can also report hate crime, domestic abuse, fraud and cybercrime. Also, Police Scotland works with a number of partners who perform the role of 3rd Party Reporting Centres. You can find nearest Third Party Reporting Centre on the website. For those want to report hate crime online, there is a form that inquires the details of incident, the injured, date, among others.
