About Nigerian Police (NP)
Nigerian Police (NP) is the chief law enforcement agency in Nigeria, formed in the year 1930. Formerly known Northern Nigeria Police (NNP), the federal agency has more than 372,000 sworn members. Headquartered at Abuja, the force works to protect and safeguard lives and property. It partners with relevant security agencies and the public in gathering vital information and intelligence. NP is headed by the Inspector-General of Police. The Commissioner of Police is in charge of contingents in a state. The command structure includes Deputy Inspector General of Police, Asst Inspector General of Police, Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner, Chief Superintendent, Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Inspector of Police, Sergeant, Corporal, and Constable.

The Nigeria Police is structured into seven departments – Administration, Operation, Logistcs & Supply, Investigation & Intelligence, Training & Command, Research & Planning and Information & Communication. There are 36 state commands, all grouped into 12 zones.
