About National Gallery of Modern Art
National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) is a popular tourist attraction in New Delhi, with branches located at Mumbai and Bangalore. Established in 1954, the art gallery is managed by the Government of India’s Ministry of Culture. According to stats, the gallery boasts of 17,000 works including those of Thomas Daniell, Raja Ravi Verma, Rabindranath Tagore, Gaganendranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, among others. There are also collections of European artists who visited India in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Said to be one of the world’s largest modern art museums, the site is located around Rajpath, at the Jaipur House. The art gallery is open every day from 11am to 6.30pm. Note that the timings and tickets vary for the NGMA locations in Bangalore and Mumbai. It is closed on Mondays and national holidays.
