About National Commission for Minorities.
The National Commission for Minorities was formed in the year 1992 to protect the safeguards of minorities in India. The body came into existence with the enactment of Minorities Act 1992 by the Ministry of Welfare, Govt. of India. Currently the religious communities described as minorities include Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis). They together form less than 20% of the country's population.

The National Commission for Minorities has one  Chairperson,  one Vice Chairperson and five Members from minority communities. There are also state minorities commissions to protect the interests of minorities in a respective state. Members of the minority communities can approach the NCM for redressal of their grievances.

The Commission has several powers vested with it. It can summon any person from India, require the production of any document, examine witnesses and documents, and much more.
