About Gateway of India
Gateway of India is a popular tourist landmark in Mumbai, India. Constructed in the year 1924, the monument overlooks the Mumbai harbor and borders the Arabian Sea in Colaba district. The Gateway of India was constructed to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay. The central dome of the monument has a total height of 83 feet. The architecture exhibits a Indo-Saracenic style. Designed by George Wittet, the colossal structure was constructed at a cost of Rs 21 lakhs. The place is today maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India

The monument has seen a number of terror attacks, the major being the 2003 blast and the 26/11 Mumbai attack in 2008. Located near the Taj Hotel, Gateway of India can be visited any time of the day.
