About Employees’ Provident Fund
Employees’ Provident Fund is a retirement benefit scheme for employees in India. The scheme, managed by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, currently has more than 170 million accounts. That makes the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) the largest social security organisations in the world. The scheme is administered by staff across 122 office locations. The publicly managed old age income security programs has a wide reach across the country. The Downloads section on the website is where you need to head if you are looking to download schemes, claim forms, registration or return forms. The claim forms include partial withdrawal or final withdrawal, refund of employer share, composite claim form in death cases and transfer of Provident Fund account.

If you are an employer and engage more than 20 or more employees, the EPFO has online facilities for registration as well as filing of monthly returns. Companies are required by law to register with the EPFO. The employer contribution is tax-free and is tax-deductible under Section 80C. The money invested, along with interest earned will be released after the mandatory period. As for employees registered under EPF, the money is automatically deducted from the salary. Currently, an employee contributes 12% of salary. The amount is invested in EPF as well as Employee’s Pension Scheme. You can request for transfer of EPF money online through the Online Transfer Claim Portal (OTCP). You can also check the eligibility and status of transfer claims online. You will need the Universal Account Number to access the services. EPF balance can also be checked via SMS, through app or by calling the helpline.

Worried about inactive EPF account? You can transfer the balance to new EPF account or withdraw entire funds. Full withdrawal is allowed only if you are unemployed for minimum 2 months. You can also opt for withdrawal if you plan to buy a home, to repay home loan or need funds for you kids’ education or marriage. Download the UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) app for easy access to a number of government services. Users can login to UMANG using their Aadhaar number. On the app, you can view passbook, raise claim, track claim and search establishment.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation
sends PF statement to employers at end of financial year. Apparently, the EPFO will soon allow subscribers to opt to save money in equity, debt or a combination of both. Locate an EPF office for any assistance with registration, payment or transfer. For more information or queries on branch locations, payment, refund, registration, career/jobs, or others, reach the Employees Provident Fund  support.
