About National Police of Colombia
The National Police of Colombia is the main force responsible for policing Colombia. Popular as Policia Nacional de Colombia locally, the law enforcement agency is operated by the Colombian Ministry of Defense. Formed in the year 1891, the National Police of Colombia boasts of more than 150,000 personnel. It is headed by the General, under who comes the Lieutenant General, Major General, Brigadier General, Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, Major, Captain, Lieutenant and Sub-Lieutenant.

The headquarters of the National Police is located in Bogota. The force’s organization is divided into Regional Police and Metropolitan Police departments. Further, National Police of Colombia has headquarters in 8 regions, with an additional 17 metropolitan police commands. The police regions are situated in Bogota, Neiva, Pereiera, Cali, Cucuta, Medellin, Villavicencio and Barranquilla. To train and educate new recruits and existing personnel there are 18 educational facilities, the most important being General Santander Academy, National Police NCO School, National Carabinier School and National Police Staff College.
