chicago metro customer serviceThe Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) operates the mass transit in the state of Chicago and its suburbs. Founded in 1947, CTA manages some 1.64 million rides on an average weekday. The country’s second largest public transportation system, CTA even covers 35 surrounding suburbs. The independent governmental agency also manages close to 2,000 buses operating on 130 routes.

CTA’s 1,492 rail cars operate eight routes. There are over 2,200 trips made each day, serving 145 stations. The train lines consists of Red Line (between Howard, Downtown and 95th/Dan Ryan), Blue Line (between O’Hare, Downtown, and Forest Park), Brown Line (between Kimball and Downtown), Green Line (between Harlem/Lake, Downtown and 63rd Street terminals), Orange Line (between Midway Airport and Downtown), Purple Line (between Linden and Howard), Pink Line (between 54th/Cermak and Downtown) and Yellow Line (between Dempster-Skokie and Howard).  Commuters can use CTA’s Blue Line ‘L’ to reach O’Hare International Airport. The Orange Line trains connect to Midway Airport.

As for fares, you have single tickets, 1-Day Pass or Weekly/Monthly Pass, Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) if using personal contactless bankcard and the Metra Link-up Pass valid on weekdays. There is also the New Ventra Card that allows commuters to load with cash or card. Tickets can be purchased at vending machines or at CTA offices. Ventra card can be purchased at over 1,000
retail locations, including drug stores. Get the Ventra app to check your Ventra card’s balance, add value or get arrival/departure times. Ventra accepts any personal bank-issued credit card or debit card.
