MTN Customer Service/Care call centre is the worst nightmare ever. No one is willing to assist callers there, you will listen to that irritating voicemail which keeps on echoing: press one and same thing, press 1, 2 and etc.
When you press that 1 nobody answers the phone until you drop it and start all over again. The same message welcomes you again, you wait and wait until you decide to wait no more.

I am a very unhappy client of yours.
I have been trying to contact one of your consultants in South Africa, more specifically around JHB South area, for assistance but have NOT been successful.
My queries are as follows:-
1. i am unable to connect to the internet via my samsung mini neo phone as a window pops up stating that ” i need to update my google play application”. I am unable to do so as i have no internet connection and also am unable to open my google play app as it says the same thing.
My email account does not send or receive any e mails as previously done before your strike. Please advise!!!!!
2. I am unable to make any outgoing calls whatsoever, cannot even dial 100 to receive voice messages. as per your consultants based at the MTN shops at Checkers center Winchester Hills, i needed to reboot my phone, which was done, but still NOTHING!! Please advise URGENTLY.
3. I am also experiencing very very very bad signal here, please advise what can be done to increase strength.
4. I load airtime onto this account regularly, gives me balance of which i take to transfer into a bundle, yet MTN chews that up like chewing gum when i have not even used it within the prescribed time period. WHY?
KINDLY TREAT THIS MATTER AS URGENT as my phone is for medical emergencies.

I need advice from you because on 20 March 2016 I upgraded from MTN TopUp200@ 279 for 24 months to My MTNChoice 100 as I required extra data. However I am very disappointed that the 100 mins can not be used for international calls and I am forced to load extra airtime to make a call. This is a useless situation as I want to call Swaziland and UK regularly and as I am now paying double the original monthly payment it is not helping me. Is there another contract that includes airtime – I feel let down by MTN as this problem was not pointed out to me when I made the upgrade.

You are charging for a contract that you are not providing.
Every month for the last three months you charge for 300mbdata but have not provided at all. I have spent the last three weeks calling for help but nobody is helping.

I went to the MTN Centre in Canal Walk, Cape Town, to collect a new cell phone, after I bought one IPhone 6, in 2017 and it broke before the end of the 6 months guarantee, in December (Ref I 27227820460 – Number 0033192526). With my disappointment the model I bought only six months ago seems to be out of stock or even out of production over the whole South Africa. I have been told, first by a consultant, then by the manager, that I will have to wait, who knows for how many months, to receive a new phone (same model).
I purchased this phone with a MTN contract, I paid and I am still paying the full instalment and I have been already one month without my phone, using the card in an old phone but being unable to use whatsapp and other media as per contract.
First of all, I should not pay the full instalment, which includes the phone (I don`t have it and it`s not my fault) and data (which I cannot use and It`s not my fault).
Secondarily, how is it possible that a phone I bought six months ago and is still under guarantee, is already out of trade for whatever reason? I have been left with a lot of “unforunatelys” and a few telephone numbers (Tyron Wagner 083 869 15 13 and 083 9000 349) to call in a while in order to probably hear more “unfortunatelys”, while I carry on paying.
Dear service providers, I have signed a contract with MTN where I was purchasing a functioning model and some services. I have the duty to pay my instalments and MTN has the duty to provide me with this functioning device and the promised services. If MTN has a problem with one phone, should provide another phone of the same or, if not possible, better model/value. If you cannot replace my model, you have plenty of better models to fix the fact you sold me a faulty item that has already wasted my money and energies. Even a two years old knows that this cell phones that companies sell at stratospheric prices, cost nearly anything in the big production. I cannot believe that a Company like MTN can be so UNPROFESSIONAL to leave a customer under contract with nothing but excuses!Please let me know urgently how we can resolve this issue, which I have raised also on your MTN FB page and I am willing to talk about also on the radio.

Well I am not impressed with MTN it takes an hour to cancel a contract even when you inform them for a 3rd time you know their procedure and know what you want done they still talk over you. Much to be desired customer service.
MTN must be the absolute worst cell phone provider on the continent.
A fraudulent account was opened in my name last year, using my address and ID number.
Unfortunately I was out of the country for a period of time before I was able to stop the monthly debit and cancel the account.
My battle now is to have the money that was illegally defrauded from my account.
The first query was closed by MTN without any follow up. The second has been going on for some months now and any query into progress is met with a stunned silence as if I am now trying to steal money from MTN.
I cannot understand why anyone would deal with MTN

I have upgraded my contract with MTN on 2018-01-02. I took out the “my choice+ S” the whole deal came to R399 as per agreed and signed contract. The debit order deduction on my account was made end of February 2018 to the amount of R958. I logged a query with the call center customer “care” to my disgust the service was far from “care”. I went to the store where I made the upgrade and logged a query. I received a text message that my problem was “resolved”. Today 2018-03-19 I phoned the Call center again and found out the same amount of R958 will again be deducted from my account and which again amount to R557 deducted more as what I signed my contract for. MTN it is disappointing having a major service provider that is money orientated and no care for the customer. You are grossly in breach of the contract I signed and agreed upon within the Consumer Act. You can contact me on the email provided.
Nobody answer your phone number 011912 4123. 800 mega byte of data have disappear from my phone between February and March . I get no proper response from your so called customer care department or from the complaint on Hello Peter. Roll on 18/11/2018 I will port my number out of your network .

I have a contract with MTN for 24 months and everytime my minutes/data are finish, I buy airtime using cash.What I don’t understand is I make a call say for 2 minutes,and the balance was R 20.83 when I went to bed last night.I’m not on social media and TO MY SURPRISE WHEN I WOKE UP THIS MORNING, I WAS LEFT WITH R 1.17.If it happened once, I would understand but everytime I buy, R 30.00 is gone after making a single call for less than 1-2 minutes.

My phone has not been working for over a week now. I am actually finishing a second week with a phone that does not work. But yet MTN debits my account every month without fail.
I am a new unsatisfied customer and I don’t know what I was thinking joining this crappy network.
I am a contract user and I don’t have a connection, no network, I cant load data, I don’t have internet and nothing works. I am not even receiving my monthly benefits which are due to me. But every month without fail MTN debits my account for a phone I cant even use.
I am so annoyed and have made countless calls to MTN who always promises to deliver and im still stuck with a phone I cant barely use.
I would gladly love to terminate my contract with MTN because its not the BOZZA network it claims to be. If it weren’t for the crazy early termination fee you are charging me.
This is a work phone and it could cost me my job. I have lost so many clients because of this and im livid.

My cell phone was stolen and blacklisted. The insurance company requires a letter on an MTN letterhead stating that the cell phone was blacklisted, with the ITC number and the phone’s IMEI number. I requested the letter from MTN more than a week ago. To date I have not received it. I do not want to hear your apologies for my inconvenience and I do not want to hear that it has been escalated. I just want the letter! I never had a problem with Cell C obtaining the same letter when my son’s phone was stolen! Is this the way you treat customers that have had a contract with MTN ever since MTN first started out in South Africa? I have 5 contracts with you, but I am not sure how many I will renew in future, due to you EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE!
iPhone X issue, that was beyond economical repair because of the Iphone X glitch (Unresponsive touch screen) that was posted in the news by APPLE in Nov 2018. I bought my phone over the phone. I took my phone to the a closest MTN as recommend by the MTN Head Office. Firstly the Eastgate branch did not deliver it to the repairs centre, and then for 2 weeks no one informs me about the removal from the icloud account so that they can assess the phone. They don’t phone you, as this is only a inbound repair centre, but than after 10 calls to them in two weeks (because they don’t phone you), there could be another issue…eventually after probably 25 calls with various staff members and with no one to help to find out what is wrong with my phone. Eventually in the third week after being really upset, someone within 20 minutes realised that the iPhone will not be able to repaired, and therefore approved a new phone. Now I needed to phone a number that either does not work (which is the 011 912 300 number) to order my new phone,or if I phone 083 123 3667 no one can help me either and same story needed to be repeated again to each staff member, with a follow up mail that will be send to the someone / the supervisor to call me back. No feedback received or calls received from any member of MTN for two – three days after I called them again….MTN need to realise that they would most definitely need to jack up the customer service without customer to call over 25 -30 times just to get the stuff sorted. I pay for a phone that I cant use, I don’t think that is fair. I don’t even know how to complain anymore and who to complain to, as no one really cares about the customers issues. As I am typing, I still have not received any calls which I hope someone will see this and help me to speed up the process.
I am so disappointed in MTN. I have a contract with MTN but my services has been suspended for the last 4 months although my payment of more than R300 are paid through debit order each month. I have been trying to report it but without success. Everytime that I managed to get through to customer care, I am told that MTN is not receiving my payments and as a result I am in arrears. I am sent to the bank to get the proof of payments which I did and submit to the email address provided by them. Four months later I am still not able to use my mtn contract and therefore I pay for a service which I don’t receive currently.

I am so disappointed in MTN. I have been struggling since November 2019 to have my mom’s number reactivated after my dad’s passing. They never seem to skip an installment due, but both numbers have been disconnected from the network.
Worst customer service EVER, have been waiting 5 MONTHS to get my phone back after taking it in for a minor software issue. Its really sad that a company that brags about all the millions its making cant help the people people responsible for the millions properly. Its sad and pathetic.
I am so disappointed in MTN , sent my phone for repairs a month ago and every time I call in they tell me different stories that does not add up if I request to speak to someone senior they drop the call its been a month and I still have not receive any proper response but am expected to pay monthly for insurance and the device which they have on their side. such a bad company you are really bringing down your company name on your own

I really am dissapointed in MTN as a brand/company. I have had 4 years relationship with you guys and when I asked for you to do one stupid thing for me you dissapeared on me and you disappointed me. I asked for my contract t to be cancelled and now all of sudden I can’t receive calls.The service I got was poor and unacceptable. I spoke to 4 consultants already and they all didn’t get it right. What bothers me so much is the level of incompetence in your consultant Nokubonga Nqobo who said she is going to log a service request and didn’t. I feel disrespected by your consultant and not taken serious. I had to call your incompetent consultants everyday , with my time and my phone . I do not owe MTN anything, you don’t owe me anything. I don’t get it why I have to call you over and over again to beg you to fix your mistake. You are making your problem my problem now and I fail to understand why. It is UNACCEPTABLE. It’s people like you that companies are closing down, your consultants don’t care and they don’t have the sense of urgency. Do they even know what one complain can do to your brand ? One angry customer will pull your rankings down. I need this matter sorted out like in yesterday. I work on my phone,this is my job, if your consultants don’t respect their jobs well some of us do. I did a upgrade, through the call center, at MTN during August 2020. I should have received a WiFi router from MTN. Up to now I have not received any router from MTN. The debit order went through every month. I reported the matter with MTN customer care. I wrote a message on facebook. MTN ignores me all the way. I follow up daily, but nothing happen. They do not even reply to my mails.
I have been with MTN since the year 2000.I had a contract with them and I’ve paid the whole 24 months and I’ve cancelled it on the 7th of February 2021.Today on the 4th of March 2021 I received a massage that the debit order didn’t go through.I’m surprised cause I made it clear that I wanted my contract which was due for upgrade to be cancelled.I’m very disappointed about the service I received from MTN.Now I feel that I’ve been forced to upgrade while I know myself that I can’t afford.
MTN is such a disappointment, my lines have been suspended since Sunday, i made full payment via the MTN app and they refuse to open my lines imagine begging for something you paid for. I have spent over R400 in 2 days on airtime trying to get my lines open all they tell me is turnover time is 2 to 48 hours. its been 48 hours and the just add another 48 hours.
I am one of the unhappy customers mistreated by MTN in south africa. i did an upgrade and took a router since we are working from home and needed more data on a daily basis. MTN could not help me with one simple thing, sim-swap as my contract sim was lost, my resort was to cancel the contract. i called and was on hold almost the whole day, so finally when i got a so called ‘customer champion’ i was told to cancel on my original cancel date. mind u i was charged for 4 months for paying a contract which is not even useful to me as i do not have the sim card. i disputed the fees that they were debiting me so when i called to cancel they said i must first pay up the debt and they will cancel the contract once they receive the money. i paid up and they kept on debiting me, but i disputed those amounts which was close to R1100. they handed me to the debt collectors and when i call to ask why they said i owe them and i never called to say now i am cancelling the contract even though i have paid them, i had to fork out R1100 for nothing , i called back to say please cancel my contract, and they said in 24 hours my number which i don’t even have will now be changed to prepaid and my contract is cancelled. yhoo to my surprise 2 months later they started to debit me again , i am so powerless i don’t know how to win this battle with MTN cos i don’t owe them in fact they are the one that owe me.
Mtn is the worse, I got a deal and wanted to cancel within days of the grace period due to being put on short time at work and not affording to pay. But nobody has done anything, people at the call center didn’t help I even went to the stores and nobody helped. I’ve been emailing and emailing them to cancel this contract and nothing has been done. And yesterday I get a sms that a debit order will be deducted and its more than the contract costs, I will not be paying for this because I have ran around to try and cancel this contract but mtn was no help what’s so ever and it is so frustrating.
Since Thursday 1 September 2022, I have attempted to call MTN customer services in order to speak to a consultant. Everyday I have been on hold for 15 minutes + before the line would just disconnect without speaking to anyone. I have sent emails requesting assistance, I only received an automatic reply saying my email has been received, but no assistance. I went to my local branch for assistance… they told me I must speak to a consultant. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry, what a joke of a company.
I’d like to cancel the online order for a phone. It was successfully processed and 2 weeks later I have not received it. I have tried to call and check and there’s nobody answering the phone. I will go somewhere else.
